Morning folks; We have a question that we think we have the right answer for but want to double check; better safe than stranded right?
Our R 80 1986 single shock model we have been trying to find more detail on lubing the splines in the final; Read somewhere ( I think Snow Bum page) WE dont have the ones you lube????
Is this the case am I looking for a job that is not there??
Also if the drive shaft is in oil like ours you dont need to lube those splines either right????
Got the circlip install done thanks to all the help here. :dance

Thanks again for all the help.

I have never heard or read anything about lubing the splines on the monolever models. We are suppose to change the oil in the drive shaft and rear end ever 5K. I do that about 3 months, with Mobile 1 Synthetic Gear oil. I use that stuff in my transmission, drive shaft and rear drive. Has worked like a beauty with no complains for the last 145K with no issues.

Haynes says that the paralever models have no oil in the driveshaft...the others do...your '86 is a monolever. It is my uhderstanding that the rear wheels on the '85-on bikes bolted directly to the final drive, thus no driven splines on the wheel-side. There is fluid in the rear drive, however.

My 86 R80RT has a separate fill for the driveshaft.

Sounds right...the twin shock and monoshock bikes all had oil in the driveshaft. The paralevers were dry.

Yes ; We have oil in both the final and the shaft and it is seperate but there are no splines to lube except on the tranny input through the clutch disc on the bike right?
Thanks for the help.

Correct , no rear wheel splines on the monolevers.
