When I fill the tank up to the fill hole the guage will have full bars. However, shortly after it drops one bar.
It does that on the side stand and sitting upright.
I shook the bike to see if trapped air was the cause but not.

When I first drove the bike home the fuel light came on but had 5 bars showing. Now, it rarely lights up at that point. I have run the guage to only 3 bars and it lit once for about a minute and went out and stayed out.
How many bars are there suppose to be when it goes off?

I did a search and only found an post in the K forums about dealer recalibration.
In hex heads a fuel strip in the tank problem.

My bike has rarely lit up all the bars when full and when it does it only lasts for a few miles. A typical fill for me is to continue blipping the gas pump until it looks like there is really no more fuel able to get in (probably 3 times after I see the fuel at the bottom of the metal opening). then take off. I rarely see a top bar and have just lived with the strange gage.

Most of the time my light comes on with either 2 or 1 bars. I usually don't run it that low and fill up around 200 miles. Maybe check your connections.

Don't put too much faith in the fuel guage. The best you can do in my opinion is to learn about its idiosyncrasies and live with them.
Currently I expect 100Km (MAX) when the low fuel light comes on.
I'm not sure it's better than the old reserve tap but if you pay attention you won't get stuck.

YMMV :dunno

Fuel sender surface has to be cleaned. Common problem due to incompatibility between sender metal and sulfur in the fuel. (PM me & I can send you a .pdf explaining this further)
You can clean the long way using repeated doses of Chevron's Techron or you can open the tank (good time to replace the fuel filter also) and wipe down the sender surface traces with a Q tip soaked in electrical contact cleaner.
I have had this problem repeatedly (00 1150GS) in the area where I live and found the Q tip method more efficient but a real PITA.

Managed to convert pdf to jpg see below

I ran the tank down till the low fuel light went off.
It was at 2 bars like mentioned. trip meter said 175.5 miles. (not bad! as my zuki goes 132 mi before the idiot light goes off.)

From what I read here that seems normal.
keeping a watch on it for the next few tanks.
