I just bought a Garmin 2730. This is the same as the 2610 series. I was wondering if any one has one like this mounted on an R1100RS. Pictures would be great as I evaluate my options.

Thanks,
Peter B

I will have to look when I get home to see if I have any pictures but,

I have a Garmin 450 and used the Ram mounts that came with it. On was a clamp on post with a ball at the end for the mount. I clamped it to the square handlebar section just below the adjustable handlebars.

I have the 2730 mounted on my R1150RS. The link below for the "Gadget Guy" takes you to a pic of the mount. He can give you further details of what you need. I've had mine for two years now, and it's rock solid and does not interfere with the gauges or idiot lights. Basically, you are just removing the existing handlebar bolts and replacing with the supplied longer bolts. There is a black plastic cover that sits between the bars and ignition that will either have to be removed, or modified. For asthetics, I modified mine to accomodate the bolts. If I don't have any pics at home, I'll take some shots tonight and put them out here for you.

All of the attaching hardware (except for the antenna mount) also came from the gadget guy. I cut off the excess aluminum rod that extended out both sides of the bolts and lightly sanded them. The antenna mount is a home-made job made out of 7075 aircraft aluminum which took about three beers and some minor head scratching to accomplish. I had longer screws to thread down into the brake reservoir from a previous XM radio install kit, and it included small thick plastic washers so the mount is actually about 1/4" off the reservoir to prevent any damage. The black plastic piece that I mentioned sits between the ignition and the fairing assembly, and just pops out of place. Because I thought it looked better if I retained it, I used some half-round files to file an area to accomodate the allan head bolts, as well as the small filed area to the right of the igntion for the power wire that you can barely see. The Garmin unit "locks" onto the mounting assembly by a small star-type screw (Gadget Guy supplied a small screwdriver that fits). It's not absolutely theft-proof, but I usually have my bike covered if it's left alone for long periods of time. As mentioned, the assembly does not visually block anything. The key goes into the ignition pretty easily too, without much problem.

See my first post above for explanation on the antenna setup.
