A friend of mine has a K1200lt and has had trouble with tire wear on the rear. and would like to know what is your preference for a replacement tire for the rear of his bike?

I've used the 880's on my 1999 LT exclusively and end up changing them out at around 8,000 miles.

It's a heavy bike and the rear tire carries a big load. What mileage is your friend getting out of his tires?

Most get 12000 and up. It has more to do with inflation pressure and speed.

I'm on the Gulf Coast of Texas with mostly straight highways with few twisties. I think my tires wear faster in the center because of that.

I've always got plenty of tread left on the sides but I replace them when the center (flattened) part reaches the limits.

I probably need to practice more parking lot figure 8's to even things out ;)

The front can last through two rear tires, but I usually change both at the same time for a little extra safety factor.

Just ride leaned over against a West Texas cross wind. Turn around after 50 miles so you can work on the other side of the tire.

I have 6000 on a ME 88 and I'm not sure how many miles were on it when I got the bike. The tread is looking good, but the cracking is on the carcass at the base of the tread. I'll probably ride it through winter (daily commuter) and get a new one in March or April.
