Has anybody some advise with regard to bar risers on a KRS? will it push me into the wind stream and or violate Beemers plans? I am 47 and although i am in reasonable shape. My shoulders and wrists were less than ideal after 3 hours. I am 5' 11''. Thanks for any help.

Ken,
I converted my 100 RS to standard K100 bars. They are a perfect improvement. I was able to find the bars on ebay for 20. bucks. You will also need a longer front brake hose. The guy sold it for 10. additional.
Look around and stick with it. It will definitely be worth it!!
The job is deceivingly difficult as many, many things need to come off and/or re-routed, ie. fairings, tank, seat, airbox, throttle cable, choke cable, etc. You will notice one thing leads to another, the throttle and choke are too short unless rerouted towards the center of the bike, etc. Careful when you bleed the brake as to not pump it when not connected or chances are you will be leaking fluid for a while. I was able to get my MC to stop leaking after a couple of weeks.
Again, it's worth the effort. You wont be disappointed nor will you ever go back to the short and low RS bars.

I put on the short barbacks from Pirates liar. They improved my wrist positon immensly for long streaches on the highway. These were said to not need the longer throttle cable and brake hose and/or clutch cable, but I have had to order the longer throttle cable since my cruise control has not had enough ajustability when rerouted to allow it to function properly, other lines long enough. If going for longer bar backs i think you will need to replace some of the lines if not all. Wind with these short barbacks seams no different than with standard bars, I am 5'8' so this my change for you. This is probably true for all the K1200rs models and may be different if you use one of the after market wind shield or the comfort shields.

Whether you have an earlier style RS (100-1100) or later (1200s), raising your bars will put you more in the wind. With the stock shield, that may be okay for you with more wind to help hold you up and keep the weight off the wrists. Most guys I know end up with a larger screen to go with the taller bars, and vice versa. Get the wind off your head and body with the taller screen (Aeroflow, etc) and you will likely want the higher bars. But no matter the model you have, cables, heated grip lines, and/or hydraulic lines may need to be replaced if rerouting cannot be done properly to avoid pinching, etc. It is not a violation of the master plan, or there never would have been the RTs, LTs, and GTs (the new source of your new lines if needed).

Ken,
Early last year I bought a '94 K-RS that had bar-backs on. Didn't need them & took them off. The '94 went back permanently to the dealer (long, bad story) without the bar-backs.
Bought a '93 after that and have been happy with stock bars/position and an Aeroflow windshield. That was the best mod for longer periods of highway speeds.

Thanks all for your well thought out advise. A lot of food for thought. As I am a new owner, it is a 99, I will see if my body breaks in before I make a move. As it is now, either my body or my bike is not an all day affair. But man is it fun !!!!
