Fellow owners

I bought a used R1100RS for a swap of my R100S. I have not taken any covers off yet, because this bike was maintained at a dealer. I have not bought any repair manuals, and I'm still looking for all the mailing lists, for oilheads. I was well versed in Airheads.

My question is:

Is the fuel tank made of metal or a plastic material on my 2000 R1100RS?

Do I need to use any fuel stabilizer during the winter months if not riding?

Thanks
Pete

Hi Pete:

My 1996 R1100RS has a plastic tank. My manual says there were few changes between 1993 and 2002.

I use Stabil in everything I store. The small engines (chainsaw etc) get run to empty with Stabil in the gas but the bike sits with a small amount of fuel all Winter. I've not had any trouble.

You'll get an amazing amount of help here with any technical issues.
FWIW I bought the CD from BMW and don't much like it. I use a Haynes manual supplemented with help from articles written by Paul Glaves and Anton Largiader and others but those 2 guys are the pros. They are very generous with their knowledge.

I learn a lot just by reading posts and often have answers before I have problems.

This is my all time favourite bike, actually favourite vehicle - ever.

I have a 98 RS with about 135000 miles on it. I use the Clymer manual, and additional info from ibmwrr.org and bmwrt.com. I do all the maintenance myself, and have replaced the HES, oil pressure switch, paralever pivot bearings and pins, and put a used starter on it when the original got slow. Installed a high/low HID from vvme.com, which makes all the difference in the world for riding at night.
I got my SS1000 on this bike, and have ridden five 24 hour rallies on it. Good bike, easy to maintain.

And THE forum for the R11RS is at:

http://www.bikersoracle.com/rs/forum/

They are updating the software so it may have a few initial glitches. A WEALTH of information from RS riders around the world.

Stabil is very good for storage, but Seafoam is better IMHO :D
