On my K75S the seal (that runs vertical on the right side of the bike) right in front of the tranny oil fill plug is leaking.

I looked in my Clymer and it does not show a gasket.
What causes this to leak and how do you fix it?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Stephen,

When you say it's leaking - please describe the leak.

Is there oil dripping? Or is it just a tad discolored with some residue around the joint.

There is no seal here since this is the seal for where the clutch lives - and on your bike - it's a dry (oilless) clutch. Since it's supposed to be dry - there is no need for any seal.

It is not at all uncommon to see some discoloration along that seam, which is excess spline lube that was thrown off the clutch splines - weeping through.

IF it is oil.. smell it. If it has no real odor it's likely engine oil. If it has a sulpher like smell (very distinct) - it's gear oil from the transmission.

A digipic of the area would be useful. There have been instances of the alternator drive seal going bad, and the oil dribbling down that joint...

Photos please! And sniff it for us.

No dripping. A tad discolored along the seam. (Sweating/ bleeding).

It's gray in color. I think its gear oil.
I will smell it later.

Sorry my wife took the camera with her to Canada.

Look underneath. There is a hole in the bottom of the clutch housing. If there is considerable dripping out of the hole - you may have a problem. If there is no dripping or very little dripping (a subjective term) - no problem and don't worry about it.

Gray discoloration along the seam is normal. It's rare to see a K bike that doesn't do this - but it's harder to see on ones with the black painted engine/transmission.
