Going on our third year here in the middle of nowhere, Paul and I couldn't be happier!
We'd be glad to help with planning your trip out this way.

Or let us all know if you live here too. :wave

Heres a link to get you started learning about Big Bend National Park:

I live in Denison, TX and we, myself and two friends are thinking about doing Big Bend this year. What do you think the best time of the year is to visit. Also I have had a friend visit and they did a float trip through one of the canyons?? I think we would enjoy that also.

Voni, what's the status of the River Road? I understand it was flooded.

Any time is the best time. When it's too hot, just head for Chisos Basin. When it's snowy there, you can ride and hike the places that are too hot in the summer. There is truly something for every season.

A very popular float trip takes you through Santa Elena Canyon. You need to check with the local guides to be sure the water is high enough for a good float.

Voni, what's the status of the River Road? I understand it was flooded.

It was in September. Even after the Rio Grande receded, portions of the road were buried under several feet of silt. It's amazing how quickly they've cleaned up and rebuilt those parts of the road.

An update on the Big Bend website is here:

Note: Highway 170 from Lajitas to Presidio has reopened but includes a 3 mile dirt detour graded for all vehicles.

Friends who rode it last week said there is an earthen berm across the road in front of the road closed sign so it is really closed, but that the detour is a pretty pleasant gravel road.
