Hey there:

What is the reason for the hinged oil filters ? Just to make installation much easier, or is there some other reason. I have compared the straight ones to the hinged ones, and the hinged filters are actually longer in length.

I know it's sometimes rough, not too much space down there, especially if you have engine guards, etc. on the bike.

I have been using Hiflofiltro HF161 filters, unhinged in my /75, and they work great, I can get them in and out fine. On the R100RT, things are tighter and not as much room. Does anyone know where to get the Hiflofiltro filters in the hinged mode ?

I am going to do a Yahoo and Google search, see what I can come up with.

Thanks for a great forum.

The hinged ones make installation easier on fully faired RS & RT models.

There are two different length filters (hinged or not). Some bikes have oil coolers and some do not. You need the right filter for the bike's configuration. Thus there is one proper length for a bike without an oil cooler...there is a straight and hinged filter that is the same length.
