Hello guys. I have my 06 R1200GS ADV. since may 2008. When I first got it , the fuel mileage was averaging 46 mpg. The average mpg has dropped to 36 mpg for the past few months. I remember reading somewhere, and since then I have searched for hours, How do I reset the main computer to reset the fuel control circuit. I thought it was a way for the bike to re-learn you driving habits and maybe get the mpg back to where it once was. One thing that may have upset the bike was , I left the key on for 24 hrs. and found the battery dead. It was about 2 yrs. old, so I replaced it with a new one. I believe that is when my MPG dropped. Thanks in advance for your help.
I had a similar issue on my '07 R1200S. They had to adjust the float inside the tank and reset the ZFE to fix this.

-Disconnect the positive and negative battery cables.
-Touch Negative and Positive terminals for a few seconds. This clears Motronic.
-Reconnect battery like normal.
-Turn ignition to On position.
-Slowly turn throttle from stop to full open and then back to stop. Do this 2 times. This sets the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) for the Motronic.
-Turn off ignition.
You are not ready to go.

The BMW manual (not the user, but the factory service) for the R1200R has the following:

Ok, so does all this apply to a 05 R12GS, or is this just for the more loaded bikes or newer bikes? I have disconnected my battery every year since 05 during the winter months, and never done this.
Help a dummy out here, have I been riding around with less fuel economy thatn I should?

I was helping a friend install PIAA lights on his '05 GS. We disconnected the battery to do this. After all was installed and the bike was started it reved up to 4000 RPMS without giving it any throttle. We immediately shut the bike down and performed the procedure to set the TPS as described in the posts above. We restarted the bike and all was fine. It's funny because I've disconnected my battery on my '06RT and never had to reset the TPS.
