Hello all,
Still rehabing my TLC need'n, flea-bay special '05R1200RT.
Had the side panels off to clean and to allow access for mechanical purposes.
As I went to replace the right side upper panel, the painted ones with the "speaker grills", I noticed the locating pin which should fit into some kind of rubber grommet on the nose piece. My grommets are missing, both sides. Just big holes where the grommets should be. Looks as if there were grommets in place at one time, missing now.
I checked quite thoroughly on the BMW parts fische and can not find the part #, or even an image of the part.
Tried over at BMWST without success, any help here?
Thanks

Just had my tupperware off to install a fuse block and I'm sorta, kinda generally a little sure there was no grommet in the whole. I'd have to look again to increase my level of confidence, but I'm sure others who are not trapped at work will have the answer.

This is a link to a shot of my '06 RTP fairly stripped. Hopefully you can use it for comparison (you may want to download and zoom it). I don't remember a rubber grommet there offhand, but it's been a while.

May see something useful here too...

There is a rubber pad kind of thingy (technical term) at the front if that's what you are referring to.
I have mine off at the moment and can probably get a shot of it if you're interested.

Fellas,
Thanks for playing.
No help with your pics however.
I'll try to post an image this weekend. I don't have a photo sizing tool, so, on many sites I can't. Nice detail, but the files are too large.
Anyway, this image will have to be taken almost directly from the side, adjacent to the mirrors, with the painted top/side panel removed.

David - minor hijack photobucket; www.photobucket.com has re-sizing tools and also some pretty good editing tools.
Registering is free.
Would like to see a picture to better understand your post.

OK..
Figured out how to set my camera for LQ
(low quality pics)
The bike is still burried in my Owens Corning Pink Igloo untill tomorrow.
The side panels are "in the HOUSE". Humor there. Anybody get it?
Anyway,
Here's a shot of the locating pin which should nestle into the grommet in question.
Yes, it sort of looks like a nipple. Guys.... relax
More humor....
By the way
I really like this color. Piedmont Red. Almost a Candy Apple.

OK, ran out to the slumbering RT. There's no grommet of any sort there, just an oblong hole.
With the dozens of times I must have taken the tupperware off I never noticed it until now. Just concerned with getting the front portion over first.
You can now go back to sleeping peacefully. :)

08 RT here - nothing of that kind either side.
Must have been a mold change between 05 and 08
What does it mate to?

Here's the hole where I assumed a grommet should be.
Maybe I was wrong.
If that's the case, this meeting of the OCD Club is offically adjourned.

Wow.....how did you get the side panel off without taking off the lid to the "glove compartment?
