A friend and I are contemplating a European tour during the late spring-early summer and prefer to make our own way rather than joining an organized tour. Can anyone recommend motorcycle rental agencies in Germany or Switzerland?

I've rented in Germany and Slovenia numerous times in the past few years.

For me, I prefer slovenia as it's close to Croatia (where my wifes from) and less than a days ride to the Dolomites and the Alps.

I rent from Adraitic Motor Tours and Matej has been wonderful to deal with each and every time. And I agree...no need to do a group tour..Matej will furnish you with GPS and maps to get you on your way.

Next July though, were doing Spain, so I'll be checking out a new rental company there.

You'll have a BLAST! Enjoy!

If you are going to Munich, BMW has a travel Point there, access them through the BMW factory store http://www.bmw-motorrad-muenchen.de

I have rented from these guys http://www.motorrad-kmaier.de They are closest to the airport.

I haven't rented from these guys but meet them and they are very personable and accommodating. http://www.tommy-wagner.com Ask for Rainer, he speaks pretty good English.

You might check out a thread in Ride Reports called "Going to Europe" Lots of info there. Don't know what your exact plans are but I just returned from living in Switzerland and would be glad to offer some advice/maps etc. PM me if you want. Have fun!! My advice, don't get hung up on a set route. Any direction from Germany or Switzerland is fantastic riding, culture, and cuisine. Let the weather be your compass

Here's my post from that Ride Report thread:

I had friends visit and both had good experiences with Moto Mader, near Zurich

and Inter Moto near Lausanne

Although the websites are in German and French, you can send them an email and they'll reply in English.
