I added some oil today and when I went to tighten the fill cap it did not stop turning. The female threaded insert in the cylinder head was spinning with the fill cap. I need some help, someone explain this to me. By the way I have a 99 r1100rt.

Stock from the factory the R1100RT did not come with a screw on oil cap. It has a plastic ring with O ring pushed into the valve cover, and a plastic "snap-lock" type cap that twists into the plastic ring. Several aftermarket vendors have sold modified fill cap arrangements. You might have one of these.

If you have the OEM arrangement then look at the plastic ring. It came with a little tab that sticks back and into a small detent in the valve cover, to prevent the ring from turning. If the ring is not fully down in the valve cover, or if the tab is broken off, then the ring can spin.

If you actually have a "screw-in" filler cap it is aftermarket. The outer ring that the cap screws into is oist often held tight with one or more setscrews accessed from inside the fill hole.

Tell us what you actually have on the bike and I might be able to be more help.

Yea, its aftermarket. I kinda assumed it was after checking the clymer manual. I'm speaking out loud when I say this but I will probably have to remove the cyclinder head cover to retighten.

If you can't see and access set screws from the top, you will have to take the cover off to access the set screws or whatever they ised to hold it in place.
