Got a new problem. Such is Life :cry
Put our R 80 1986 in the shed for about a week and went to start it this morning and Nothing, Nada, Zip .
Turn on the key Push the start button and nothing.
Put on the battery charger even tho I had a light and now we have a strong battery after charge and still push the start button and nothing. Clutch is in N light is on so it is both out of gear and clutch is in. Nothing. The lights on the dash work , headlight works, brake light works NO start. The button does not make a sound and there is no diming of the lights on the dash or headlight or anything when the button is pushed.
Sitting for only a week or so without use should not cause anthing to corode or anything should it? I only had one vehicle that could sit around and brake itself before and it was a Dodge truck :stick so I cant picture the R 80 doing that. It has always been soooo reliable to start.
General guesses should I start looking for a bad relay, bad connection, bad button??? Figured Id pull the tank and try jumping the starter unless someone has a tip here.
Thanks
Jim and Esther

Best guess -

Switch or relay or bad connection.

Go ahead and pull the tank and check the connections at the starter relay.

Then check for 12v+ being delivered to the relay from the switch.

And 12v+ to the relay from the battery.

This ought to give you clues as to where the 12v is getting lost.

If it gets past the relay you ought to get at least a click at the solenoid -

If it gets past the relay check the little wire at the solenoid on top of the starter.

Go from there!

Thanks Paul
We be do that tomorrow.
Been like 3 weeks since the tank has been off anyhow. :D Seems every time we look at the bike we have to pull the tank. :laugh But look on the bright side with the K 1200 LT we had that was a all day job with Molly its just a few minutes.
Thanks again
Jim and Esther

PS Get Voni something "RED" For Christmas SHE will be surprised :dance

Handle bar kill switch? Could of been hit by accident. That happened to me once and before I saw it, I had removed the windjammer fairing and was digging in the headlight. I cussed myself for at least an hour.

I bet you will find your problems in the connections of the starter relay. It is under the tank on the left side. It is positioned just below the master cylinder, which causes it to catch excess or leaking brake fluid. This turns the contacts pea green.
