I am attempting to do my part and thin out the deer herd in Michigan. So far I have only seen one buck on opening day. I was unable to get a shot off due to the way the deer was standing.
On day two, I had several suitcase deer stroll by my blind. Nothing worth knocking down there.
Day three, I had changed my location to another blind. I discovered that there is a hole in the wall. I fell asleep and was awakened by a porcupine. I almost soiled my hunting suit. HOLY CRAP! that got my blood pumping. The porcupine entered my deer blind from the hole behind the seat. The darn thing bumped into my boot and woke me up.
Day four, I am at work today. I'll get back into the woods Friday evening. So far the deer season in NE Michigan is off to a slow start for me. I have plenty of time whether it is rifle, bow and arrow, muzzleloader or just hit one with my truck.

You missed the whole herd, buck and big does, that strolled by just before the porcupine woke you up, Pat. You could have got two or three just throwing rocks!

The season is almost a month old here in Montana, and it's been so warm for most of it they haven't started to rut yet. It's only finally dropped into the thirties (for a high temp) today, so hopefully the bucks will start thinking more about does and stop being so shy.

I bet there was one hilarious moment or two in that blind. Would have loved to seen that on video. :ha

Deer gun Season opens Saturday in Wisconsin. Will do my best to avenge all those who have hit deer with their vehicles.

I saw a nice big buck trotting through my neighborhood here in Kalamazoo four nights ago... He didn't stay still long enough to count, but it was either a 6 or 8 pointer. He did pause, broadside to me and I'd have swore he had a crosshair tattoo on him... must have just been my eyes ;)

Bullet season has been on since the first here...my dogs are taking the brunt every evening as rifle reports echo up from the canyon I live on top of...they are not amused! I see several trophy bucks daily in the same canyon, some wander up to my yard.

I was riding out yesterday for a goof off ride and spotted what I thought was a dead dog/cat in front of my neighbors...dismounted to clear the poor critter off the pavement when I discovered it was just a deer skin someone did not secure from the predators:laugh :laugh :laugh ...I tossed it back into my buddies shed area where I am sure it came from...he's probably thinking:doh

be careful riding and for those in shooters range...be seen!

Hey all; Haven't seen nearly as many deer out as normal. It's great weather for hunting here in the "great white north", low 30's with a light wind. Plenty of snow. If I don't see anything by Thanksgiving, I think I'll pack it in and enjoy the family. Let's be careful out there!! Via con Dios. Dutch

This morning I drove to town and I saw in this order: Bobcat, Bald Eagle, Hawk, Antelope, Coyote and a whole gaggle of Mule deer......what a day!
P.S. There also have been wolves in the area for the first time in 100 years? Google: Wolves Reed Point Montana...

A buddy of mine, a mile from my place, had some deer hunters staying at his place a couple weeks ago. They did ok over the weekend...

I hunt mostly in GA on some land that my buddy owns. Harvested a young but good sized buck last month with my muzzle loader. Cooked a vension meat loaf with roasted vegatables last night for me and the lovely wife. Yum, yum.:thumb
