So does this mean that all those movies & tv shows in which residents of the future are always sliding pictures around in the space in front of them were just product-placement for this???

Actually a lot of the develope work for this came out of a movie it seems from the write-ups about it, so you're not far off!

this is incredibly fascinating. I look forward to learning more about it. Now, since CNN has been fooling around with Hologram images and their 'magic maps', I suspect that they'll be applying this as well. A Wolf with gloves on? - Bob
