Has anyone heard of these things for the cooling fins on the cylinder heads?

I think they must be stock on some bikes? Either that or my DPO put some in, cause I'm constantly finding them on the garage floor. Not always sure which bike them come from, but in some cases clearly the 84 R100RT.
Bike's no noisier now for their loss, that I can tell....
Eh? What'd ya say???

These were first installed on the '85 R80s. The last ones I got from BMW didn't fit and promptly fell out. I suspect you'd need a decible meter to hear the difference made.

In concern for safety, I removed the pucks on my BMW. As everyone knows 'Loud Fins Saves Lives'.

It's spelled "Finns" and we aren't supposed to do ethnic jokes on this forum. :)

I think most air cooled bikes (particularly dirt bikes) were starting to use some sort of rubber fin stabilizers by the early eighties. It was either due to tightening noise pollution regulations and/or trying to keep sound down to similar levels with the new water cooled engines coming out at the time. The noise levels we were used to then (to the point of unconciously "tuning out") were noticeably reduced by water jackets, coolant, and the reduced surface area from eliminating fins.
