Better question is, representation of your cruiser notwithstanding, why do yo have a thumbnail of the BMW ON as your's? :brow

Good question about how it's perceived.
Then again... It's only an avatar and dependent on your monitors resolution.

... all this talk about Avatars made me think that once in a while I should change mine. Switched to something a tad more self centered which I took during a /5 solo trip to the left coast in '98. As I await the inevitable Winter, commence some needed bike work and contemplate a pending retirement, I thought this smart-ass artsy photo of me heading west out of Minn. might better suit my mood..... for a while. As for what it is, it is me on The BatBike back in may of 2004 on the Talimena Scenic Drive in Oklahoma. It was a lucky shot- a friend of mine pointed his camera over his shoulder and pressed the button. Whenever I try to do that all I get is a blurry shot of weeds or the side of my helmet. :laugh

Good eye, or you looked at the file name.
Coming out of turn ten on the uphill is one of the places I make a lot of passes, my exit speed and torque, along with the wide line offers me some opportunities. Unfortunately a lot of them then out power me down the front straight, and then hold me up through 1-4, the short shoot between 4 and 5 is the other place I can get a run on them and if I get a good run up through 5, 6 &7 I can usually hold them off down the back straight, and by 10 again gain enough room that they will catch me on the front straight, but not get by.

I love a good martini. A good gibson, to be precise (a martini with cocktail onions rather than olives). 5/1 Beefeater gin/Noilly Prat dry vermouth. I want it crystal clear, not dirty. Shake the hell out of it and strain over two cocktail onions in a proper cocktail glass. A miraculous elixir. :bow
I prefer my martini avatar on ADVrider, though. On ADVrider the olive on the swizzle stick moves about stirring the martini. Unfortunately some forums, like this one, don't allow moving avatars. I'm on several forums and I use my moving olive martini where I can, and this one where I can't. I have thought about finding an image of a gibson, but I'm too lazy, and I've never seen another "moving" martini like the one on ADVrider.

I don't know. My ADVrider avatar is pretty small relative to others, and the movement is slight. I see your avatar has some movement, but as I recall, I got a blanket message telling me that animated pics weren't allowed. That's been a few years now, so maybe its changed.

Because the seat is so comfortable. Well, relative to the BMW seat on my 1150RT, the Norton is comfortable.

Because it represents some of the things I love. My bike and my family. The picture was taken by my other son riding on my wifes bike.

Possibly it depends more on the size of the animated gif, rather than whether or not there is motion.

Well, I tried again and got this window when I tried to upload it from my computer:
"You may not upload animated images."
The window gave no reference to size, and its obviously wrong because there are a number of animated avatars on this site. But, I checked the size anyway. The pixels and byte size of my "moving martini" avatar are well within the parameters set for this forum. I did some checking and picked four "moving" or animated avatars on this forum to compare. The one I'm trying to upload is smaller in pixels to two of them, and smaller in byte size than three of them. I don't have a clue as to why I can't upload it.

Maybe they were 'grandfathered' in when they changed the sig policies.

Or possibly this feature was not turned on when the forum software was updated recently.

Nah, I was grandmothered! It does seem weird, though.
