Filling R1150RT on Sidestand

Normally I fuel my bike on the centerstand to get maximum capacity, but I'm heading to Spokane with a buddy who rides a a K12RS. Because his capacity and mileage are much less than mine, I'm thinking of fueling on the sidestand for convenience. Does anybody have an idea how much difference this makes in capacity?

Howdy Frank-

IIRC About 0.5 gallon on my 02R1150RT or about two bars on the fuel level indicator. I have gotten to the point I usually don't even get off the bike now; so putting it on the side stand would be more difficult for me. What I do like to do though since I ride with a shorter legged bike as well, is do a full fillup anyway.

My reasons are:

1) Keeps from using the sludge in the bottom of the tank
2) If there is a problem, such as say the other 29 year old bike loses a clutch ---- oops I mean runs out of gas. I still have plenty to go get gas and bring it back.

you might as well top it off every time cuz you never know what the heck is gonna happen. if you had enough you could siphon it off if your buddy runs short...2 cents
