View Full Version : Is it my computer or this site?

I haven't been on-line for about a week and I am now finding this site to be really, really slow to access, almost slower than when I had dial up. So tell me, is anyone else having slow access here or is it just my tired computer?

It happens to me every time I come here. Sometimes the pages will load, sometimes they all time out.

Same with me. It takes forever to load a page. No other site takes this long.

Seems to be happening to everyone...even people living in Missouri. It's not your computer but appears to be something with the server that houses the website. We all connect to that server when we click on the link to the website. Since it's happening across the board, it can't be your computer or your Internet server near to your computer, but rather something closer to the actual website server. Happens to me, too...

It is not your computer. I am having the same problem. Half the time it times out and tells me sight is unavailable. Almost totally shutdown.
I called the head shed in MO Saturday and have not of course heard back from them. ( I was surprised they do not have an 800 toll free number ) I am not having any problems with other sights or my high speed computer.
Where is the webmaster on this? I am sure we are experiancing the same problems.

We're working to correct the problem. I expect all things back to normal within the hour.
Sorry for the issues.

It was slow on the weekend sometimes, so I would just minimize the Forum down, go into the other site I hang out, and then flip back and forth between them.

Top Ten reasons my BMWMOA site won't open
#10. I have used the computer to open way too much porn; must defrag -quick!
#9. That little joke over the weekend on the site pissed off Mr. Rocket
#8 I KNEW my wife had not sent out that MOA renewal with the rest of the bills!
#7 Spelling is now reqird to be on the BMWMEA website
#6 I could of (have?) had a V8-So is grammar!
#5 My keyboard must be malfunctioning from all the angry hours typing in pissed off responses to Randy and other trolls.
#4 I am not really here, this is a dream; I have overslept on a Monday Morning! HELP!
#3 The law says ADV OR MOA not both...I am being punished by God
#2 This is all a disillusionment cookie, I have not, nor ever will be a Member of the BMWMOA
#1 The IT director at corporate finally found out how many hours I spend typing this dribble

It was odd earlier - I couldn't hit "http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum" but if I went to the main MOA site and then clicked on a link to one of the "recent forum posts", it took me right to the forum. I could also browse around to other with a bit of computer geek URL manipulation.
Yeah, I was a little bored. :)
PS: Someone should delete the old election forums. :p

I tried this morning and the site was down. Later on it was up and way WAY faster including the posting page. Thanks for upgrading the site folks!

I've found a picture of the new "Box". It's a shared server and I believe it will serve us well if given a little TLC.

You need to keep an eye on the most important two buttons:
RESTORE: for when the server crashes - not that it ever does
CTRL: When the mods want more control over the forum population. :whistle
:D
Honestly: I'm an IT guy. I feel their pain. I'm working on an IT problem now at work and it's driving me crazy. I post here to take a few minute break before going back to the problem at hand. :hungover

Forums are still slow to come up. Still a lot of hesitation but no more stalling out/cannot find website. The site still needs some fine tuning.

I move that tonight:
-at 10PM EST
-at 9PM CST
-at 8PM MST
-at 7PM PST
-pick whatever time zone you want..
that we all try to access the server at the same time in order to have Knary show us what he can really do!
Is this exciting or what?

I'm finalizing details with our current host and ensuring that we're not paying too much for the hosting. An upgrade comes with, as expected, an increase in costs. Managed hosting of the kind we need doesn't come cheaply. While there are many hosts out there, many come with their share of horror stories.

Break out some of the secret MOA gold (I think SIBUD has it this month) and get us a GOOD server. Something multi-processor/multi-core. Possible a few servers... get some round-robin DNS going on and then have a clustered DB back-end. Don't forget the RAID mirroring and some hot spares.
my gosh, I'm starting to drool... I'm such a geek. :p

Gone Adv Rider.
It'd be funny, I mean interesting, to see how your financial/political threads are handled in CS&M.
Then again, advrider's had a few glitches lately too.. we just need to upgrade the internet.

Heck, I'm only in charge of the black choppers this month and nothing more.
Now if you want to talk about all that swag the officers and BOD members get, that's another story. :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh

You need to use the correct terminology to keep yourself out of trouble - it's "sample items", not swag. :)
