Fellow oilheads,
My '04 RT just developed a clicking sound that occured just a couple days ago. I just had it shipped from Italy to Washington state where I currently reside. During my first ride since receiving it, a suspicious clicking sound started to emminate from somewhere up forward around 10miles into the ride. The clicking sound increases and decreases relative to throttle response whether in or out of gear. My bike has approx 40.8k mi and I changed the oil just prior to shipment. Any help would be greatly appreicated.
Cheers,
Steve

give a careful listen to each throttle body. clicking from them would indicate shaft/bushing wear, and need for repair.

It's a bit of a drive from Oak Harbor, but if you're looking for a local BMW motorcycle mechanic, I know of two independent wrenches - one in Marysville, not terribly far from Whidbey Island, and another in Seattle (Mick Vallantine). Mick works on my bike and I recommend him highly. I've heard him speak kindly of his peer in Marysville. I don't have contact information for the guy in Marysville, but Mick's website is here: http://www.vmwmotorcycles.com/ I know Mick would gladly provide contact information for the guy in Marysville.

If the clicking is only on startup, or more severe on startup, it may be the cam chain tensioner.

Stephen,
My guess from down here in Tucson is the rocker arm end play. Sounds a LOT like tapping valves but it isn't. I should get worse when hot.

I appreciate the troubleshooting expertise and the contact info for a wrencher in my area. As soon as I find my maint. manual in my pack-out, I'll be investigating the issue. Thanks again! Take care and God bless you all.
Cheers,
Steve

Could be valves. Could be the alt belt has gotten frayed.
The TBs only tick when you open the throttle verrrrryyyy slightly so that the throttle stop gets smacked around a little bit, so that can't be the problem.
Cam chain tensioner usually makes racket at start up, and can make noise if the tensioner has gone bad, but that would be rare.
