Now that winter is coming and the wife asking want I hope Santa will bring I started thinking about electric clothing and some additional lights.
Now the specs say that I have a 700W alternator. How many electric gizmo's can I add before I start to over draw the system?
Thanks

Lots.
Electric vest is about 50W. Electric kettle or toaster is about 1000W.

add up the wattage draw of every item already on the bike, that will tell you approximately what you have left in reserve. then figure out the wattage of items you want to add. i would want to keep 100-200 left over for safe operation.

You can run a full Gerbing suit with gloves and socks if you want. To put things in perspective, a 1965 Volvo 140 sedan only had a 650W alternator for an entire car. These bikes were designed with police work and ABS in mind and BMW built an extremely robust electrical system into them. I have owned 4 oilheads and have NEVER had a situation when the electrical system was not up to the task.
