HEXHEAD Tech - R1200GSA - Gas Tank Removal

I'm about to remove my gas tank on my GSA.

On the throttle side of the bike I can't find where the fuel hose disconnects from the tank. Do I have to start taking the tank off for the hose to be accessible?

Besides the normal bolt that holds the tank to the bike there is also an extra support towards the top of the tank. Will I be able to loosen the nut to slide off the tank or do I need to remove the whole nut and bolt?

Another other tips on removing this extremely large piece of plastic would be helpful.

There are two fuel line connections; one on each side top of the tank. These can be removed by sliding the small metal lock (at the tank connection) back and then lifting the hose off from the connections. (be careful not to lose the small o-rings on each fitting once you pull offf the lines) There is also two vaccum lines on the right side of the tank, these simply pull off (make sure to note which one goes where). There are two electrical connections on the left side of the tank these simply unplug by releasing the molex connector lock at each connector.

There are four bolts that secure the tank to the bike. The two up front just need to be loosened not fully removed. The two in the rear need to be completely removed. The less fuel you have in the tank the easier the tank will be to remove.

One hint that I discovered: Remove the air inlet snorkel to your air filter. This will allow the tank more "wiggle" room when you are sliding it backwards and off from the two front guides.

One hint that I discovered: Remove the air inlet snorkel to your air filter. This will allow the tank more "wiggle" room when you are sliding it backwards and off from the two front guides.


Don't forget the most important hint.. Make sure that puppy is near empty ;)

I know a few folks that have tried to do a removal on darn near a full tank and wondered why it was so hard.

The two rear bolts are a pain in the #$%@! to reinstall. BTDT. Take your time and be patient during the reinstall.

Thanks for the help, just took it out for a ride to lighten the load a little bit.
