Does anyone know if a Corbin Gunfighter from a 1978 R100S will fit on my 1976 R60/6? If so please let me know. Thanks

No. The S model has a cowled seat and the /6 does not.

Thanks for the quick reply! I guess my quest for a used one continues.:)

It is a costly exchange these days but a 1977 RS/S or later RT cowling, seat and a 77-79 /7 sport tanks can be retro-fitted to the 76. The modification has to be done with both later style tank and cowled seat together. Then you could use the Corbin seat...Note that most fixed position rear racks will prevent a cowled seat from opening so there is another item to consider.

Not that big a problem, at least with the Krausers. Just pull off the right one - or slip the seat off the hinges. Neither one is a deal-breaker for a more comfortable butt.

I've had my 86RT with a Corbin for about 10 years and taking the right bag off is not a problem. Takes about 5 seconds.

As mentioned, it's not the saddlebags that really get in the way, it's a fixed position behind-the-seat rack that stops the opening. yes, there are work arounds, but they have their drawbacks as well. OP is looking for a cheap seat alternative, had his/her eyes on a specific seat (ebay find?), and it won't work easily. buying a new tank (including paint, etc) to go with the used seat will not be a cheap fix either.

I've run a stock /7 bench seat on a stock /6. It fit and kinda worked. There was about a 1-2" gap between the nose of the seat and the tank.

the other question is, which gunfighter setup is it? the one that uses the cowl or the one that doesn't?
I had corbin make a /6 style cowl-less gunfighter for my /7
they told me the only difference was the shape where the saddle meets the tank.

if you're willing to call and work with the folks at corbin, they'll do anything you want

Lose the rack; put on a cowl & seat setup. There is a rack that screws onto the cowl, if you gotta have one. Biggest expense then would be painting the cowl unless you'd luck out buying one the same color as the bike.
If you're looking for a solo, there was a solo-[I]styled Corbin that went on ebay a week ago for only $120. It fit into an S/RS dual seat cowl and it was usable (if not necessarily very comfortable on the back pad) for two up. Compared to what solo cowls & seats sell for these days, that was a screaming deal.

That is a surprisingly low price for a great looking custom saddle. I think the stock units I priced were more than that. :dunno

yup. go to this page and click the order tab:
http://corbin.com/bmw/bmw6g.shtml
they've gone up to $369.
it's a simple saddle that they've had the tooling for years.
you have to push hard on 'em but they can build it for a /7 as well.

I would not call Mike Corbin's stuff "custom". I would say it is "aftermarket". Custom implies, at least to me, that the saddle has been customized to your personal specifications. That is not what Corbin does. They do "one size fits all".

they do various levels of custom work. mine was a 'custom' order. the /7 gunfighter is not a catalog item. we determined we could build it using an early [non-cowl] /7 pan, I described what I wanted for materials and appearance and they built it to order. if you throw enough cash at corbin, they'll build anything for any bike and despite what the bashers say, the quality is pretty decent.

i've run a few Corbins in my day (Mike's workshop used to be aobut 25 miles from my home in CT, back before he moved out to Cali).
what he does not do is custom build it to your body specs, like a Rick Mayer does. Last saddle i bought from Corbin took 3 returns to get it right, and that was correcting some real basic flaws that should never have been let out of the shop in the first place. very frustrating.
that /7 gunfighter looks nice. i have a cowled gunfighter, waiting to go onto my project 100S.

:D I stand corrected. I just assumed if it was on ducatipaso's bike it was custom.

i guess it all depends upon what you determine to be "custom". if "make it this color with this trim color" and "make this for me" is custom, then that saddle is custom. if "build this saddle to fit my butt perfectly", then no, it is not.

but you see, corbin DOES this. I did the 'ride in' program at the Hollister site for a saddle for my R100RT.
they put the pan and foam on the bike, wife and i rode it around, they carved here, moulded there, etc until we were satisfied with the fit, then they covered on the spot, to order.
here's a photo I snapped of the finished product, still on the bench at corbin's shop

nice. Knew they were capable of customizing, just had never seen/heard of it in action.
i liked my Corbin seats, even though they tend to be hard and wide. Just really turned off on the last order i did with them due to the lousy QC.

and you assumed correctly :D
i spent quite a few hours on the telephone working with a nice fellow from the florida shop to describe and validate exactly what I was looking for, which was excecuted correctly the first time, and was in my hands 3 weeks from the day we gave the 'go'.
unfortunately, this group has a few noisy folks that choose to bash corbin because brand y or z is supposedly better, more custom, more comfotable, more ugly, more diamond tuck, has 'wings', heaters, gel, is made from only the finest hides of the nauga or whatever.
I say, to each his own. overall, my experience with the company has been positive and the look and quality and comfort of the current saddles I have from them on the paso and the cafethingy is great. :thumb
