I have a '99 1100RT and am concidering replacing the stock exhaust with a slip on canister. I am looking to keep it nice and quite, without the heat and weight. I am looking for honest opinions and not a sales job.......THANKS!

About a year ago I bought a used Ztechnik exhaust for my '99 R1100RS out of the BMW ON flea market. The guy that sold it to me had it on an RT. He sold it because it was too loud. He had trouble listening to music while he was cruising. I kept the decible killer in place and I think it sounds great. I get enough wind noise on the RS that I don't notice much of an increase in noise over 50 mph versus the stock exhaust. I know that the RT's are quieter than the RS's. You may find that any aftermarket exhaust is too loud.

That is the exact slip on I was contemplating and I too want to listen to music as I cruise.

You need to define what it is that you are trying to accomplish:

More power?
More Noise?
Less Weight?
What?

Once we know that we might be able to help.

Staintune isn't quite stock but is a good compromise and a real weight saver. My bike has it and I am very satisfied with the tone and very quiet sound.

I am not specifically looking for more power, but less weight / heat and keeping it on the quite side. I am playing with an MP3 player and amp hooked to 4 speakers on the bike. :type

In the long run it probley would be best to leave it stock. I have the same bike you do, and I'm saving for a Two Brothers system. their about the loudest system on the market, but thats what I want. The only system that I have seen that is pretty quiet, and saves weight is the Remus. that might be a good choice for you. I like the looks of them, but their to quiet for me... :bolt
