Anybody out there thats tried Shinko tires-Advance Raven & Podium are the ones that I think fit our (I am on the R1150R)bikes. Pleaseeee , no purist comments on why I ought to buy Metzelers or other similar tires , this is about asking just what kind of performance you might be getting from these Chinese(Korean?)tires. I would like to hear ride, mileage and other type comments. This isn't going to make much talk in a bike magazine review because they are not buying the whole page ads like the other guys. I looked for a review and did read that they bought out the Yokohama tooling for bike tires. You can get a set of these-170/60/17 & 120/70/17 for $145 .

One of the squids around here loves his. He says they wear great and from his lack of chicken strips they must stick pretty good.
If you are paying the dealer to mount and balance, on a percentage basis the money saved would be slight. If you do your own, then a different cost factor applies, I will go for it when my next set wears out. The squid says they do need balanced unlike my experience with Michelin's.

Here is a recent post on the Honda ST forum about Shinkos.
Shinko rear - 5,000 miles later
I installed (OK, not me ... but the place down the street) a Shinko rear tire on the ST. They did not have the Bridgestone 021 tires that I was running from the dealer so I went with an 020 in the front and decided to try the Shinko on the back.
This has worked great.
The first obvious notice is that the bike no longer pulled to the right. Secondly the Shinko appears to put a bit more tread on the ground. Now maybe it doesn't really but the feeling is that it does.
I ride the desert run to Mexico in excess of 100mph and the bike is steady and smooth. The tire is H rated and handles the speed easy enough.
I have limited twisty action to talk about so I won't at this time. I mainly commute and ride across the desert for enjoyment. Not much of a mountain rider.
For $73 this tire is the bomb. I average 1000 miles per week and as quickly as I change tires this is the best way to go.
Don't be scared of the Shinkos.

I thought I'd been around the block? What is a squid? I pay a Suzuki dealer down the road $15 each to mount and use Dyna beads to balance. He has a several thousand dollar tire machine and it is the way to go for my money and wheels!I don't see prying around is worth it and thats from a tightwad! I may go to the air gun soft pellets on my next set for balancing, as I understand they work just fine. My people are from near Joplin(originally) on my Dads side-I hope they aren't SQUIDS too!

Squid refers to the young, poor judgment (in my opinion) sport bike rider that you see doing stunts on the street, riding 150 mph on the highway or taking turns on the street hanging off and sliding thru corners (or ditches).
Supposed to mean Stupid Quick UnInsured Dead.
Or a worse one describing the condition of the body after a wreck, which I will not describe.
they do know which tires stick and hold up at high speeds.
And which lawyers to hire if you happen to get a performance award.:thumb
