Do I need a special charger or will my blue BMW charger that I use on my R1100 bike work?

this is what I have:

You don't need "special" anything if you connect the charger directly to the battery.

In fact, you didn't even need that "special" BMW charger. BMW marketing, as slick as they are, tried to make everyone believe that they needed to buy some over-priced BMW charger to charge those GEL cell batteries, yet they forgot to install a "special" alternator & regulator in their motorcycles to also charger those GEL cell batteries. One does have to chuckle. ;)

I don't know about that specific charger, but if you plan to charge the battery through the accessory plug you will have to make some modifications. On my R1100 I could plug the charger into the accessory plug and all would be well. On the CANBUS R1200 the accessory plug is only on when the ignition is on and for 30 seconds after you turn it off. To get around this problem, I had another accessory plug installed with a fused line directly to the battery. I use it to run my air pump (draws too much power for the CANBUS to handle) and for the trickle charger.
