I just bought a used topcase for my 2007 R1200GS and now I'd like to re-key it so my ignition key works. Can anyone tell me how to do that??

I have re-keyed the cases on my R1150R and bought them used and separate on ebay. It is easy(unless you are severely mechanically challenged) and I bought the lock cylinder kits from Chicago BMW. They come with instructions and you can call them or ask here for help. BTW, that dealer has been maligned somewhat on this forum, but I have had nothing but great service from them. Not difficult at all, go for it!:clap

Oh, this is an R1200GS! My dumb mistake. The link to the post below is the way to do the GS case and much easier than the R1200RT which is what I thought. I need to learn to read it all...Sorry for my confusion.

Thanks for the tips - as George W. would say, "mission accomplished!" It was a piece of cake, and only took a few minutes. -Phil

Or you can do what the baffoons where I bought my BMW did: Remove the lock, stick the key in, and just GRIND OFF any tumbler plates that stick out above the cylinder..
