View Full Version : Mudflap

Anyone have an idea how to install something that reduces the amount of debris that's flung onto the rear strut of a GS? There is an odd-shaped opening under the fuel tank in front of the spring, a good place for a mudflap of some sort. My old R1150R had a plastic shield that was part of the rear shock. Perhaps something like that would work.
Ideas?

Take a look at some dirt bikes, they use something similar to what you're describing. It is usually made of harder plastic than the more rubbery mudlaps you'd see at the back of a fender. Maybe you could find an aftermarket replacement one (from UFO, Acerbis, etc) that can be modified to fit.

The problems are (1) the shape, and (2) how to mount, because of the fuel tank.

you mean like this?
No, that's a "hugger." I don't want something that close to the rear nobby tire. I have a hugger on my street bike (R1200R).

That's a Thumper, but perhaps a shroud for the twin's shock is in the works at TT. The spring on the F800GS is angled such that clods of mud would likely get up under that guard (but nothing I can't get out with a blast from the hose).

Cut a section of inner tube and slide it over the shock. Or slit it lengthwise and spread it out to form a shield.
