My bike's battery is approching the two year old mark. I'm concerned about it giving up the Ghost on the road so here's my question, What battery are people replacing there stock unit's with ?

Mine is still the original battery. Still works great. Bike was built 04-05.

I inquired with MaxBMW about the Odyssey battery... Here is their reponse on what they recommend.. "We don’t recommend the Odyssey at all. There are lots of batteries out there and a lot are not good. If that is the original battery in your bike it’s probably an AGM Exide pn#61217692141 and they’re no longer being used. We recommend the new BMW sealed AGM battery. I have them in stock, fully charged. $127.58 If you want one, bring in your old one and we will properly recycle it."

I've used the Odyssey PC-680 for the past four years in Iowa weather with excellent results. The reason I have the battery is the glowing reviews on this battery on this and Chromeheads.org forums. I've found it to be a VERY robust battery and has a two-year shelf life. I received mine in the mail, installed it, and started the bike right off with no ABS faults.

I agree; the reveiws on the Odyssey battery have been great. I was surprised to hear that MAXBMW had such a "straight-line" of NOT recommending it. I did not receive any additional elaboration as to Why? I will try to inquire to see what is driving their opinion.

Has anyone else had any positive or negative experiences with the Odyssey batteries? Is there any reasons why they would not be recommended for a BMW CANBus electrical system?

It's got nothing to do with CANBUS, IMHO. Who cares what kind of wiring the bike has?

The issue is usually one of fit. I don't like having to modify the battery or battery mounting hardware (or both) which is what I'd have to do to put an odyssey in my '05 GS. I replaced my stock battery with a Yuasa (cheaper than the exide, same form factor) because of my own stupidity in letting the stock battery go empty. Twice. That is usually not conducive to long battery life. The original battery now does bench duty and could be used in the bike if necessary.

+1 on that, currently have OEM battery at the time of replacement will do so in kind.

I also added a Volt Meter on the bike so I can monitor my voltage, something i think the bike should have come with as standard equipment
