Have any of you folks replace your front wheel bearings without using the factory tools refered to in the Clymer BMW R850-R1100 1993-1998 manual? Seems to me that the bearings are stacked in from the left side and could be pulled out from the left side or pressed out from the right side. Am I right?
I have mechanical experience. I have replaced my transmission input shaft and clutch. I did that at 55,538 miles. The bike has 57,600 on it now.

Just to let anyone who's interested know, the bearing swap wasn't too hard. I found the the aftermarket repair manual more confusing than helpful. I was able to do the task without too much trouble using a pilot bearing puller, 2.2 L Chrysler wrist pin, bearing/seal installation tool and my trusty heat gun.

Hi. What made you decide to do the bearings, if you don't mind me asking?

While I was replacing my front tire, I checked my bearings by jamming a finger in the bearings and giving a twist. That's when I discovered they had gone bad. I hadn't noticed anything when I was doing my pre ride "T-Clocs" and I hadn't noticed anything the last time I had replaced the tire about 10K miles ago.
