I just had my EWS ring replaced last week and now have a different sounding Fuel Pump when turning the Key on. The new sound isn't a constant however. I would like to know if the fuel tank had to be removed to replace the EWS Ring ??? The bike runs fine but the new fuel pump sound has me concerned.

What do you meant by the sound not being constant? The pump itself makes kind of a buzz. Are thre two sounds or just a different pitch to the pump?

The Pump sometimes has a different pitch. I'm thinking the fuel tank may of been removed and maybe the pump moved.

The tank has to be opened to access the fuel pump. They wouldn't have to have done that to replace the EWS. Does it make a difference if the tank is full or empty? If you place your hand on the tank is there a vibration when the pump runs?

I first heard it when the tank was low, I fueled up today and the result is the same sound.

To answer your question, the fuel tank doesn't have to be removed to fix EWS, but many mechanics will remove it. The cleanest way to fix is pull triple clamp, tape the top surface and lay on towel or blanket to drill out security bolts...need leverage on these bolts...not using this method can lead to paint damage on clamp top Some guys will try to drill out bolts with clamp on bike [from beneath] and tank still on. Those fearing damaging something will remove tank first. Why not ask the dealer who did the fix? Much more to the point than asking a bunch of folks not involved to solve a specific situation they know nothing about? Sorry to be so direct...I have a personality defect along those lines.
