Well I just had the feared EWS issue happen to my 2007 R 1200RT and I had an opportunity to try to use BWM's Roadside Assisitance. The Phone number I was given is 1-800-225-1575 and guess what it's not the right number. What is the right Phone Number ? If I had to grade BMW on their Roadside Assit Program it would be "SUCKS"
The phone # is 1-877-680-2176. That is directly off my Roadside Assistance card.
I used it about 3.5 weeks ago and was towed 150+ miles. You get up to $500 to be towed to your nearest dealer. I spent $66.50 of my own money. Now, on 10/9 my bike is a lemon under AZ law, and BMW may buy it back under the same law this week or next.

Thanks for the info. One would think BMW would have just one number to call in an emergengy but one would be wrong. To make thing's ever worst my dealed failed to enter my Bike's VIN into the Roadside Assistance data base. My 07 has a EWS failure, I finally got the bike home, no thanks to BMW, and my Dealer will be hearing from me tomorrow. Sorry to here about your Bike being a Lemon, what was the repeated repair ????

An electrical gremlin that shuts off the bike, locking up the rear wheel and killing the ABS, as I wind up after a shut off after 2 hours of riding. The first fishtailing episode was frightening indeed. By the fourth, I was just disgusted and angry. But that was weeks ago. The bike entered the shop for the third time 9/14, and by 10/9 that makes 30 days for this. That a lemon under AZ law, as is 4 X

in 2006 I rode my 2005 R1200RT with the wife from Houston, TX to Utah. Had a spill in New Mexico and needed help. Called the BMW road assistance, gave my details and my bike VIN number. Was told that not I nor my bike exists in their data banks. I read the VIN number directly from the bike and from from the bike papers. No go. I did not exists. Both I and the wife swore that we do exist and we do ride a shiny new R1200RT. The guy on the other side was adamant that, at least my bike, does not.
Since then I was contacted few times by BMW Mottorad to give my feedback after servicing the bike at my local dealer. I always relate the story and I have yet to hear an apology or a simple "sorry".
As a matter of fact I even approached our own organization/magazine, the BMW ON. No dice. They were utterly uninterested. Well... maybe I should have told them that I want to buy some advertising space...
We ride a great bike but that's where it ends.

Were you ever able to get your VIN entered in the database after the fact?
I have not had any problems, but would be very interested to know if it is possible to inquire if my VIN is in fact in the database (just in case).
Anybody????

It would be my advise to everyone to call the BMW Roadside Assistance phone number given to them by there Dealers to check for it's accuracy and while you at it see if your Bikes VIN has been added to the Data Base. Find out the FACTS before you really need the service. Do this from the comfort of your Home and not on the side of the road. Since I got my Bike home under it's own power I don't know it service would be denied if someones VIN wasen't in the System, I'll find out more in the morning.

I also have had trouble getting recognzed by the roadside assistance people. I have talked to BMW customer service and found that the dealer did not enter my vin into their computer databased--that is now corrected. I still (after 7 months) have not been able to get roadside assistance to send me the new owner package.

Poor service to say the least. I never received an Roadside Assistance Package and did'nt know I was suppose to have one. What number for BMW "Customer Ignore" did you use ?

Here in Canada we get a plastic card (like a credit card) for Roadside Assistance. Aside from the 1-800 number (good anywhere in North America), it also has your bike's model, year, VIN and the date warranty/roadside assistance expires (3 years unlimited kms). It's mailed to the customer a couple of weeks after purchase/delivery. I've used it in Canada and the US and have never had a problem contacting them (them being the third-party company that BMW uses for this service).

It sounds like the dealership dropped the ball. And it sounds like BMW Motorcycles USA doesn't have a followup system where they require a dealer to account for each bike sold. That could be a big problem since BMW itself is responsible for being able to contact the purchaser directly in the event of a recall.

Here's the facts as I understand them. The correct BMW Roadside Assistance phone number is 1-877-680-2176. I called this number myself today and my VIN was finally placed into the system. I called BMW Corporate Headquarters to joice my opinion about Dealers giving out wrong phone numbers and the whole EWS fiasco. My Dealer told me they replaced over 100 EWS units to date and that this was a Recall Item. Corporate told me it was NOT a recall but a Pro-Active Campaign, leads me thing think of a "Who's on First "skit. Here's my advice.
Make sure you have the correct emergency phonr number
Call the number to confirm your Bike's VIN is in the system
Get your EWS Ring replaced, The dealer will replace the unit even if you tell them it failed once. Don't wait for BMW Corp. or your Dealer call you, they won't.
"Who's on First" ??? "What's on Second" ???

I got my first ST in '05 and put 50K on it. Traded it on an '07 because I wanted Silver. Check out ST-owners.com. The V4 is a different flavor than the opposed twin. The riding posture is different but I always ride on Sargeant seats anyway. There are a couple issues with the ST also. You could get a nail in a tire. If the engine oil is overfilled it tends to blow out valve cover gaskets. The thermostat might fail in the open position. This causes a temperature reading of two bars instead of three. You have to decide where to mount farkles. You have to decide what color jacket to wear. People will comment on the nice BMW and you have to explain thats it's a Honda. Much as I like my BMW, When I'm 2K smiles from home the Honda really works for me.

Perhaps it's dumb luck but I've gotten the deluxe assistance packet on both the BMW's I've purchased. Also got another promotional package with key ring, CD, BMW book and etched paperweight after each purchase. I've call roadside once just to verify that I'm in the data base. They wanted to know which bike - so I checked them both - I was there - Like I said, either my dealer is very efficient or I'm just lucky. Was nice to know they knew I existed as I was concerned on my last trek that I'd end up with an EWS no start - out in the middle of nowhere of course. That's due to be fixed next week. Along with a misaligned front shock on the 08GS and the fuel indicator that went dead 60 miles into the trip ( at 982 miles on a new GS).

I got my card within two months of purchase and did not get the new owner package until four months after purchase. I had to call BMWNA several times demanding it befor it was finally sent.
I asked the dealer about it (sales person) who checked with management and no one seemed to know what I was even asking about. Packet was nice after I finally recieved it. Glad I didn't need the card the first two months.
