View Full Version : Noisy (Brembo) brakes on K75 while coasting

I bought my 1991 K75RT at the beginning of summer, with fairly worn brakes, and it began to emit a whining noise when coasting or slowing down, which went away if you tap the front brake. Then, I got both front and rear pads replaced a few weeks ago. Out of the shop, the rear brake began to whine while coasting, especially at low speed. Tapping on the rear stopped it for a bit. Now, the fronts have begun to whine again while coasting, worse than before. It goes away only for a moment if you tap the front brake.

Clearly something is up with my calipers that makes them squeal like this when the brakes are OFF. Any suggestions? The front brake whine is getting really loud, and it's annoying to keep tapping the front brake to silence it.

By the way, both front and rear brakes are normal when in use, they can squeak a bit, but that's fine. It's the whining while coasting or driving slow that's really annoying.

I'd be patient if it were just a new-pad break-in issue. But the fronts have gotten much WORSE with a few hundred miles on the new pads.

I bought a 1994 airhead recently and had a similar problem without the squeal. The front calipers were dragging and I could not get the wheel to spin freely.

My mechanic took the calipers off and spun the wheel with no problems at all. He told me that he can buy a rebuild kit from Brembo which would eliminate the dragging. Since your bike is as old as mine, that may be something to check out.

You may want to ask your local wrench what he thinks.
