K100RS 4valve I believe '90/'91 Looks alot like the K100RS. Uses the same KRS fairing.

Any K100, including the LT after '90, they all used pretty much the same basic motor.

yes on the 4 valve K100. was offered the year after the K1 was first introduced (88?), and remained in the lineup until the K1100 was brought out as the next upgrade ('93, iirc)

I don't think there was a K100LT 4-valve. I think the K100LT 2-valve evolved directly to the K1100LT without an intermediate step. I'm getting old and my memory is starting to fade. :scratch

The K100LT did not go to the 4 valve head. It remained a 2 valve to generate more torque at the low end.

In its day, the 4 valve K100RS was called "the K1 in sheep's clothing." :)

Thanks Ralph, I checked the parts fiche and you are correct. The K75RT also remained a 2 valve during its production.
By the way, I do love the low end torque. I recently test rode a 2005 LT and could not justify the cost over my '90 LT. Acceleration felt about the same riding 2 up and the plastic and windshield made me feel like I was riding a golf caart.

My 91 K100LT is a two valve engine. At this years MOA rally it appears even the experts believe it was a four valve engine with a paralever rear end. I asked a question about the swing arm at a siminar about my 91 K100LT and they assumed it was four valve with paralever. I don't think they believed me when I told them it was two valve with monolever.

Happens more than not. I've visited the BMW NA rolling Motorcycle hauler a few times. Mostly Daytona or the MOA nationals. U ask em about a BMW motorcycle more than a few years old and most are clueless. I think they hire those people for their looks and for the company's self promotion, not their knowlege of the brand.

This makes me feel much better. For a while here, I thought I was an ignoramus for not knowing.
In the meantime I recieved this info from a contact at BMW Motorrad:
"The first K1 was produced in August of 1988, VIN-number 6372001. The first U.S. market K1 was produced in January of 1989 VIN 6365001. The K1 remained the only 4-valve K model for 2 years until the production of the first K100RS 4-valve in July 1990 VIN 0200001. The first U.S. market K100RS was also built in July 1990 VIN 6493001. No other 4-valve K100 models were made. All K1100 models were 4-valve, of course"
Thanks all for responding!
Nice contact! That's some pretty specific information. :brow
