Looking for help. Twice this summer the bike failed to start after shutting it off for a short time of approximately 5 minutes. Turing the key on the instrument cluster lights up and looks normal but the head light is not on. Pressing the starter has no effect. The first time ( Aug 1st ) I pushed the bike away from the gas pumps contemplating what to do I retried the bike and it started. The second time (this pass weekend) same thing no head light and nothing when pushing the starter button. We tried the ignition switch several times noticing sometimes the headlight would turn on very briefly, one it turned on but when pushing the starter button the light went off and nothing happened. Decided to move the center and side stand, shift the gears thinking it might we an interlock switch and the bike started and has worked fine since. Any suggestions on what the cause might be?

There are many possibilities - but a few clues too.

First off, make sure the connections are tight at the battery, and that the main ground lead is sound and secure. This very much matches the symptoms of a bad main ground.

Second, since fiddling with the ignition switch seems to have an effect, suspect either the switch itself, a connector, or a potentially broken wire leading to the switch. Right in the vicinity of an inappropriately placed and overtight wire tie up by the steering head would be a good place to start wiggling wires.

This bike has two ground wires. Make sure that both are connected.
