The left turn signal on my 2005 R1200RT ocassionally sticks, maybe once every 20 times I use it. The cancel button has no effect. If I hit the right signal they both stay on. I keep clicking the cancel button and it eventually goes out but maybe because I've gone the .3 miles. I sprayed contact cleaner in both switches and the cancel button tonight so I'll see if that helps. Any suggestions appreciated.

If the contact cleaner doesn't help - perhaps some WD40 might.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll report back whether or not the problem is solved.

Sometimes the soldered wires where they connect on the backside of the turn signal switch are so close together that they almost touch. Not quite - but almost. These are connections for the +12v and for ground. If a slight bit of moisture from rain, washing, or condensed humidity gets in that vicinity it acts just as if the switch was making contact.

Examine those solder blobs on the back of the switch assembly. If they are very close together then WITH THE KEY OFF use a knife blade inserted between them move them a bit further apart.

See page 105 in Ron Ayres book "Against the Clock" for the blow-by-blow of one such encounter with stray electrons.
