Hello everyone, Am considering getting a second bike and ran across 85 K100 with 11,000 miles, has saddlebags, new rear tire and new battery. Supposed tobe and from the pic looks in great condition. Asking $4400. Don't know anything else about the bike at this time. In the past I owned a K75 and wished I had never sold it, other than that only oilheads. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this model. Thanks in advance for any info.

I have a 85 K100RT very pleased with it. My biggest complaint is that it is very hot on days above 80. I think thats the biggest complaint that I hear from other owners. Several ideas here to fix that problem but none have made much difference for me.
$4400 seams kind of high but then again I have not seen the bike most seam to sell for $2500 to low $3000s but 11000 miles is low milage. Others on this and other sites will tell you that higher milage may be better as the the bike would have been used as opposed to setting for long periods. If you like what ya see go for it my guess is youll be happy.....:dance

I would tend to doubt the 11,000 mile claim. The odometer may have 11k on it - but very few if any '85 K's still have the original instrument cluster.
Price seems exceptionally high unless the bike is absolutely perfect - and then getting $4,000 for it would be difficult.
Since you loved your K75 - you should know the K100, especially the '85 is not anything near as smooth and vibration free as your K75 was. If you loved the K75 - look for another one. Any other K will disappoint you (I've owned both.)

I would offer him $2500 tops. I bought mine last year for $1500 with 29,000 miles. It needed a new front wheel ($500).
The 85 K100RT is a great second bike for riding in October through about May. Nice and toasty for those of us who haven't invested in electric clothing yet.
The problem is that any bike made over 20 years ago needs work. Rubber rots, grease turns to shellac, etc. If you are going to take on a project, it might as well be a K75 since you know you like em.

Thanks all for the replies, and yes I have decided to wait and look for another K75. Was looking at some old pictures and Damn! I sure liked that bike.

I sold my very nice and original K100RT 10 years ago for $3,600 and made a small profit. It didn't need anything and the Dolomite Gray was very nice. I replaced it with a K75RT because of the buzz of the K100Rt engine. The K100 was much faster but the K75 was much more comfortable.
