View Full Version : How is the bag lock retained?

I was using the locks on the bags the other day, and one of them tried to come out with the key! Once back home, I actually removed that lock with the key and some jiggle action. The lock cylinder has an o-ring on it, but I don't see an obvious method of retaining it in the housing. Is there a pin or set screw somewhere? '93 K1100RS. KC

There are several brass plates that make up the locking mechanism. The very bottom one is supposed to slide pass the bottom of the outer cylinder, holding everything into place.

So either yours is stuck, retracted, or the cylinder wasn't pushed all the way to the bottom of its housing. I suspect a tired, stiff O ring is the culprit. Lube all those little brass sliders while it is out, and replace the O ring with a new soft, cushy one. That ought to solve the problem.
