Considering selling my 03 1150Rt to buy the above- love my present ride except for the brakes too strong and no cruise. Dealer wanted to give only 6500 with only 6000 miles- I use it only 4 months a year in Connecticut. New bike would be close to 19000 with accesories without negotiation- want low version with very few BMW options- a big payup versus present 03- IS IT REALLY WORTH IT. also I wonder in light of the current issues in economy new sales cant be looking that great now or going forward.

Since you only put 1,200 miles a year on your bike, no, it is not worth it to trade. Your bike is low mileage and with proper maintenance will continue to go for a long time.

No, keep what you have considering the number of miles that you ride. Practice with your brakes until you become comfortable, and do an internet search for an after-market cruise control. I use a throttle meister lock and a cramp buster on the throttle. These work well for me and they have a low cost, but care must be taken when using these items.

I agree. A rough calculation is that, using it at the same rate, it should last at least another 70 years. It's hard to justify $13K (19 less trade-in) for an R12. And the R1150 is a really nice bike.
But the R12 is such a sweet bike... :whistle

try to find a 08 leftover or maybe a demo bike. I must say the r1200rt with electronic cruise and electronic suspension control sure is nice. Remember you only live once!!

Heck, four months is a normal summer where I live.! Honestly though, unless you have money you really don't know what to do with, use it to spend on some other expensive hobby so that you can ride the worlds best bike and something else really cool. However, if you are planning to do a lot more riding than in the past, or the kind of person who just has to have the latest toys then go for it. I know people who have changed bikes just to get the lates colour!

Dollars aside, Which bike fits you better?

To answer your question, no, it is not really worth it.
Like most things , it all boils down to how bad you want it.

I stumbled on an 06 R1200RT that had been traded in at a local Ford dealer, of all places. Sold my 03 R1150RT thru the MOA website in about a week (18,000 miles on the bike) to a great guy in Atlanta, delivered it, flew home, and bought the 06 (with 4,000 mi) for about $10,600. The 1150RT was a great bike (and I love the way it looked.....) but it can't compare to the 1200RT in power, handling, transmission, ride quality, etc. If you do the deal, you wont be sorry...... (Except for the looks part.....)

I had a 04 R1150RT when my 07 was in the shop. What a toad. No comparison between the two. I don't get the people not liking the looks. I think the 07 looks like its goin 50 standing still. The old RT's look like something my grandfather would ride. Get the new RT. You won't regret it.

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the dealers first born child.
I just might be interested for $6500, can you send some pics? Maintenance history? JON

Well as is typical in this financial crisis now spreading to Main Street- the buyer of my 03RT emailed me that in light of the economic uncertainty he will pass until this Spring- MAYBE-
I DONT THINK BMW OR HARLEY ARE GOING TO BE SELLING A GREAT DEAL OF NEW BIKES- just my opinion

Yes, I can certainly understand. Time to hold what cash I have and hunker down. This economic situation may ultimately turn out to be the worst of my life time.
I would hold on to the the 03. It's still a very nice ride.

How can a consumption driven economy go into a recession?

Because the consumption was based upon borrowed $$$$ and it is now time to pay for this debt- people are overextended and used their homes as piggybanks or just bought tooooo much housing and are overextended.

I have a full stable at this time. Three BMWs, three Harleys, and a Gold Wing are spread across the USA in three locations. The Harleys are on the bottom of the list anymore (one in each location) and the wife has made it perfectly clear the Gold Wing is her bike of choice for 2 up. That leaves a '04 R1200C for solo rides in another location. 'Tis my favorite cruiser for a day ride. But at the main location I have a '08 GS Adventure and '07 R1200RT along with the Gold Wing and a Harley. For a mixture of off/on road the GS is great. But my overall favorite for those 900+ mile days is the RT.

It seems to me that you could sell your cycle for about $8000 to $9000. Does that put the new closer to reality. :brow
