View Full Version : Lost rear brakes...but missed the deer!

Yesterday the wife and I decided to take ride through the Apalachicola National Forest in the Florida Panhandle. During the ride we spooked two deer which, instead of running into the woods they were right next to, ran directly in our path. I hit the brakes pretty hard and we avoided a collision. About a half hour later into the ride my rear brakes were gone completely. About 2 months ago I replaced the rear pads and the fix went well. I added a Speedbleeder at the same time I made the fix. When we got home from our ride I noticed what looked like a leakage of fluid around the Speedbleeder nipple and onto the caliper assemby, though it was dried and didn't look like a recent leak. For peace of mind I dissembled the caliper again to make sure everything was in place and it was, only now I can not get the brake to work at all. When I pump the pedal with the Speedbleeder open I do not see the brake fluid pumping through the system as it should....it just moves very slowly and I can not build up any back pressure to the pedal...it just bottoms out. I must be doing something wrong.....any ideas? Bike is a 2002 1150GS with integrated ABS (Brembo) not servo assist.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
