I am changing the rear tire of my '86 K100RS back to the stock 130 size. It had been a 140, and I remember the mechanic saying that he had to add shims to clear the swingarm. When I took the wheel off, I have 3 shims under the wheel. My question is, what is stock? One? None?

Thanks for any advice.

I assume you men the round disk with holes in it for the bolts to go through.

If so - stock configuration is 1 of them.

And at the risk of getting into a WAY long discussion.. they are not a spacer. They are a "friction enhancing disk" (knowledge that came from a court case involving someone who lost their rear wheel at speed suing BMW..)

Do not leave home without one. And only one.

+1 True

Geoff Adams has seen the original drawings and stuff - I read papers from the court filings.

But so as to not further confuse things, please note that its friction enhancing properties notwithstanding, the BMW parts fiche still calls it:

Spacer Ring 2mm Part# 36 31 1 451 791
