I spoke with the Boneyard guy and he told me C bars might work without cable mods to offset the bars back a bit.

Anyone make this exchange? Would love to hear comments on this for this 85 K model.

Thanks.

You will need a longer upper brake hose.

Why not just get the K100 Standard bar? If you want heated grips (and can find the kit) now is the time as it is only a few dollars more to buy the heated grip kit for a K100 standard (comes with the bar) than just buying the bar.

FWIW, I did the K100 Standard swap on both my K75S and my K1100RS and didn't need new cables or hoses for either. I needed to cut some zip-ties and loosen the banjo bolt on the brake hose, but I needed to bleed the brakes anyway (you might want to do the same.) An added bonus, the K100 Standard bar comes all set up for bar-ends and the bar ends are included in the heated grip kit.

HERE (http://www.verrill.com/moto/tech/cbars/cbars.shtml) is the write-up I did on the K75S. Note that I actually did the bars twice - first with a genuine K75 "C" bar, then again with the K100 Standard heated grip kit bar which I VASTLY preferred.

OK Ted. Thanks. I'm new to the BMW world as I'm a Triumph guy (a stock 78 T140). Are the standard bars about the same offsett as C Bars?

I'm not too tall 5' 1/2 and I just drove 16 hrs straight from Nashville to Boca Raton, FL (home). The grips killed my hands and wrists.

Yes I hear you - I am 5'10 and the "S" and "RS" bars were painful for rides of more than 8 - 10 hours at a time. The K100 Bar put me up and back enough to make both the S and the RS extremely comfortable bikes for long days, but not so far back as to lose the feel of riding an S/RS when I got off the highway.

If you use the K75C MID RANGE bars you do not have to change any lines or cables.

I've done it and it made my 85 K100RS bike far more comfortable. Your BMW Dealer will know the part number.
