Speedometer

The other day my speedometer started waving back and forth about one graduation. Best guess, the cable or the instrument?

1983 R100RT with about 160,000 klicks.

Best (least costly) guess is the cable. Be sure the cable makes a straight-in approach to the pod. You could try lubing the cable to see if that helps...probably best to get a new cable. Mine started making noises and it turns out it was the bevel gears and bushing right where the cable enters the pod...it needed some grease. Different problem, but might be related.

Worst (most costly) guess is the instrument.

Try the easy things first.

take the cable off and look in it does it look broken? Then while it unattached spin the back wheel. Does the center move? Re-attach and tighten. Try it out. Cables are cheep bit sometimes they just come loose.
