Greg, I enjoy my Grand Marnier.
As everyone might be aware.
But this is a superlative experience.
If you like liquer, this is something . . . . nonpareil.
But this was after a very good friend who also has been my BMWMOA mentor and got me to buy my first BMW motorcycle. We had supper at one of my favorite haunts, I started with some tuna tartar, really brilliant as I have persuaded them to carve it for me to order.
Then a nice marinated hangar steak with pom frittes.
Accompanied by a 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a little young but quite drinkable.
so it was quite a remarkable evening.
Enjoying a fine Macanudo Ascot after.
It's been a very good month for me and I wish all the best to all of you.

If you can find this stuff, you are in for a treat. :brad It is even USDA organic so it must be good for you. It has a similar taste to root beer but no fizz, not too sweet, and it is 80 proof. I drink it neat but is mixes well and is great over vanilla ice cream.
I have no affiliation. This stuff is just great! The only problem is, some of you will now be buying this and it will become even harder for ME to find.
Cheers!

A Brit informed me and a buddy drinking Newcastle one night that Newcastle is the PBR of our English cousins. Any other Brits second that?
I claim no pretentious taste buds for drinks but there's a big tasty difference between the two.
I'm satisfied with a $10 gallon of Carlo Rossi and a Hand Grenade.

The weather has turned on us here in the western suburbs. Snow and wind. This Mocha Porter (http://www.rogue.com/beers/mocha-porter.php) is deep and dark with dark chocolate and smoke lurking. Chases away ol' man winter. Delightful.
What would you nibble on with a brew like this?
Maybe a coddled (OK quick microwave, like 13 seconds) Grand Marnier later? :thumb

The snow is falling very hard now. And yet as the cork is pulled from the bottle of Mead, the smell of newly turned earth, the fragrant perfume of the roses, the feel of grass between my toes, the bonfire's fireflies dancing to the stars and the laughter of friends on Midsummer Eve. Ahhhh Mead.

I cannot spell this correctly I think we may need Bubba. I have had the delightful experience of knocking off a bottle or two of CR Paisano (sp?). Ah the impetuousness of youth.
There was that great Italian restaurant in Kansas City that put a jug of CR Paisano on each table along with crayons customers used to keep track of how many glasses they poured. $5 a glass at the restaurant or $10 a gallon at home!
One great cheap wine!

My attendance was required at a dinner meeting of my wife and a bunch of her colleagues. A wine tasting was included, and I tried a whole bunch of Roses, clarets, cabernets, pinots, and other stuff, none of the names of which I remember.:D
The best part was, I got a great deal on a bottle of fine scotch, which was on sale:

Well, my brother in law was in town yesterday, so we opened it up and tried it. It's very "light" and smooth. We had one drink each, and then switched to Famous Grouse, which is his favourite.
Macallan
That's Neil Peart's favourite.

Well, a little bit of everything.
Had a lemondrop less the sugar and limoncello for starters.
Then a friend and I split two bottles of a really decent French Bordeaux with supper.
Now I'm safely home (it's a quick (even quicker after that) hop home on the ET4 (http://wezul.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Vespa-ET4/Vespa2/122249219_iJ2gK-L.jpg)) having a few Grand Ma's (http://wezul.smugmug.com/Other/Misc/Grand-Marnier/396964896_enWei-O.jpg) with some Cafe Parajo, a Guatemalan, Peruvian, Southern Mexico blend offered at Trader Joe's. At a little over 6 bucks a pound it's a really good dark dark roast.

As long as were on the subject of drinking.ahh beer in particutar,
The first saturday of November is NATIONAL TEACH A FRIEND TO HOME BREW DAY!! The Stevens Point homebrew club of which I was drafted into get together at Stevens point home brew supply right next door to O'SO brewery. It's the only time of the year I breakdown my home brewery and haul it to point to make beer out in the parking lot. There is usually 14 or 15 other folks who do the same. Then we pass what ever you brought to try everyone elses brews. The gathering starts around 8:00 AM and wraps up about 5:00PM. I've been a part of this for 10 years and it IS realy interesting to see others setups. Mine has been the best setup the past few years. Thanks to Erics first class welding and help in design.
There is all grain brewing, concentrate brewing using premade surup and combinations of both. Anyone interested can PM me for further info.
Thats the first Saturday in November,Dress warm it's cold outside!

Have to say I am off Bailey's and their knockoffs entirely.
Tonight at Cab's (http://www.cabsbistro.com/) we had a nice time hanging out with owners Lisa and Chef Luis. Nibbling on P'Tite Basque, Proscuitto di Parma and fresh bread while I sipped on Crown Royal on the rocks.

What am I drinking tonight or even last night? Water most likely. Sometimes I'll have a soda and occasionally a dark beer. I might even have a glass of wine at the odd times but most nights it's water or iced tea with dinner.
I spent far far too many hours dealing with drunks to ever want to turn into one myself. I was cured early on of thinking drinking is "fun" or that it leads to good things. I do not celebrate holidays that are primarily excuses to get drunk (new years and st patricks day) and do not like being around those who use them as an excuse to get "hammered". I've lost family to drunks and I've been hit by drunks on the road myself. Got no use for a drunk, even an occasional drunk.

Summer 2011 - perfecting the pisco sour recipe got a bunch of attention. Good piscos are an underappreciated drink (think a Peruvian version of grappa)
The homebrews change with the season- back to maltier stuff with higher EtOH levels for the winter. I often use some added wheat malt to bring up the alcohol content and spicier flavors of my brews. Got a few hops varieties going this year so expect to brew with my own fresh ones next year.
Last night- the cellar holds a lot of the best French and CA reds, many with over a decade of age heading toward drinkng perfection but a simple country wine hit the spot last night- a Mas de Guiot 2000, cab/syrah blend which I liked well enough on its release all those years ago to buy a bunch of cases- the last of it is now at a perfect age. Dinner was ribeye, a good salad, and red potatoes / homegrown sweet peppers roasted with olive oil and Greek style spices. Slow cooked Irish oatmeal with brown sugar and Vermont maple syrup for breakfast today.
Lunch yesterday was at Ella's, a seafood place in well known Calabash, NC where the oyster roast is the seasonal item now that fresh spot are gone. Ate a half bushel for $22 - one of the benefits of not being stuck with urban prices. We catch redfish off the dock out back though its slow this time of year because the cooler water has pushed most of their finger mullet preferred diet off the flats into deeper water- and I'm not that much of a fan of redfish to eat so generally won't keep them.

Amen to your thoughts... Worked in emergency services for 26 years and saw way too many tragic circumstances and lot of innocent people hurt or killed.
That being said, I do enjoy a wee dram (heck, sometimes two!) in the peace and comfort of my home. And NYE parties? I haven't been to one of those in about 45 years. Learned that lesson a long time ago!
