Riding my new-to-me '94 K75S from northern Georgia to SF Bay Area (3000 miles)1st of October. Rear tire is new but front has some wear already.
Might need to get a new front Metzeler for it somewhere along my I-20 and I-10 route without much delay if possible. Will be stopping over in Dallas 2 nights so that would be my first choice to find a good m/c shop that could install the tire. I have to be in Oakland, CA by the 9th of October at the latest.:banghead
Anyone know a good shop in Dallas or further west? Comments or recommendations appreciated!:wave

Many people here have had good results with them.
As far as which tire for your S, I've had excellent performance from the Metzler Lasertecs, but the milage is so so (less than 5000 mi. with aggressive riding).

Tucson has a Cycle Gear http://www.cyclegear.com/cat_disp_new_col2.cfm?L1=129 storefront. Tho not priced quite as low as swmoto, they will install & balance tires for you at around $20/wheel (think i paid $13/wheel a few years ago from them). I would just pull up to the back entrance of the store in CT, yank a wheel, they'd do it, i'd reinstall and yank the next, they'd do it, and good to go.
you can call their Tucson store in advance, and make sure they have the tire you want in stock for you by the time you get there (they likely offer more than just the 880 from Metzler that appears on their website.
if you're not comfy pulling your own wheels (stone cold easy on a K75- or most any beemer for that matter), then i would feel fine recommending Iron Horse M/C in Tucson- very reputable shop. just realize that you will always pay quite a bit more for the comfort of having a shop do the entire job for you.

Thanks guys for the great info. Tucson might just work out for me as I more or less plan to overnight there if I take the I-10 route after West Texas.
I haven't pulled a wheel off any of my Beemers before and while it would be a very good idea for me to learn how---I'll probably go to Iron Horse and have them do the whole shebang. I'm on a tight schedule and that'd be the quickest and easiest (though costliest, I know) for the time being.
I'll let you know how it goes after I return home in mid-October....
Thanks again!

I would recommend you call them in advance. They can probably fit an on-road rider in, but a courtesy call in advance sure makes it easier for them, and the other guy whose bike they would have been tending to while they are tending to yours.

why not pull the wheel now, for practice, in the comfort of your garage? it's incredibly simple, and will save you at least $100, maybe closer to $200, after you factor in the higher cost of dealer purchased/installed tires.

Yes, Paul, I would call them in advance---good idea.:thumb
Bikerfish, I won't have the bike until I get to Georgia in a week or so---as it is currently a good 5000 miles from my garage out here in the mid-Pacific. :brad
The seller indicated that while the rear tire is new the front has had some use (exactly how much wear I don't know but if it's noticeable I won't take chances on making it all the 3000 miles to California).
Thanks again, guys and wish me luck on my big adventure!:dance
