I have never seen so many Beemers in Indy before. What a week! I only got to go Sunday and got soaking wet, but it was still great. I hope to go next year as well. What a great group of bikers. The cops had nothing to do but watch! The newspaper said only four people got arrested all through the event.

...and Ducatis.

It has to be sunny next year right? There can't be hurricane remnants two years in a row, can there? Already looking forward to next year.

Poor Ducatis Sunday after the storm. Wind did not like that rain cover:

I had a blast at the GP!

One of my favorite pics from the weekend:

I'm already looking forward to it. Good number of Beemers around plus several at my hotel (Red Roof Spdway). BMW tent deserted when I walked by though.

Real bummer about those DUCs. Imagine returning from the soggy grandstands to that.

And I'm still thrilled that ROSSI won!!!! (even though I was in Ducati Island & Grandstand)

That hurricane stuff was really weird. This weekend it is mostly sunny and in the low 80's here in Indiana, what it normally is in September. Tornadoes and horrible storms are more common in the Spring and Summer here, but this just isn't a hurricane sort of place. Just bad timing. Katrina did about the same thing to us, but not so much wind. So what are the odds of that happening two years in a row?

Usually this time of year we get a cold front passing through that'll bring a line of storms at worst, then it clears up and cools off. It was just one of them freaks of nature that put Ike and Indy on a collision course.

By the way, that storm did alot of damage around here. There were a lot of trees down and debris on the roads, power outages and corn blown over where I live.

Let's hope us Hoosiers can give all you non-Hoosiers better weather for MotoGP v2009!!!!!

I wasn't there, but hoped that with all the hype, the Speed channel would air the race.
Nope... They showed the 250 class.
Then on the Speed report, which is typically dominated by IROC, (oops, I mean NASCAR) they gave it a few minutes. It looked like it would have been a great show.

What's up with that. Why was it skipped on the Speed channel? I had been wondering why it didn't record on my DVR. Hard to understand. Almost a historical event being in the US and the Speed channel doesn't air it?:banghead :dunno

An agreement was announced earlier this season to air 3 or 4 of the MotoGP races on Network TV. Guess they didn't do a great job publicising but the press releases were out there on usual websites. Indy was on NBC live!!

Good news ... it was in HD. Not so good news ... the coverage was lacking compared to the Euro guys on SEEED TV. Of course SPEED has been known to botch things as well, cutting out critical laps for commercials.

But I'll take it.

Here's a couple of my favorite photos from the MotoGP. I took all the photos.

The 2007 MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner with Greg White

Here's a poor quality video I took of Nicky Hayden leading Rossi in turn one for the first half of the race.

I rode up to Indy from New Orleans and figured I had nothing to fear from Ike. My wife called Friday to tell me we had four feet of water under the house (we rasied it to nine) from the storm surge. But she said she would be fine and to carry on (I owe her big time). Then Ike shows up just in time for the race. In spite of the wind and rain, though, I had a GREAT time and I got to see The Man himself, Valentino Rossi. Cheers to the Speedway for a terrific event! And a big THANK YOU to the local ABATE chapter for taking care of my gear while I was at the race. I'm so glad I didn't have to tote that stuff around all day or worry about it on the bike.
