Does anyone know if BMW Motorrad offers a factory delivery program? I may be spending some time in Germany and thought it would be a cool way to get a new bike....

Thanks for any insight!

Unfortunately, no. Decades ago they did, and they still do for cars.

If you're in Munich, check out the just-newly-renovated-and-reopenned BMW Museum. I've seen a few photos and it looks pretty good!

I saw that you are in Arlington,VA. And that you move every 8 months.
That made me think that you are in the Military.
If so you can buy a BMW in Germany. See below.

I could see how it would appear that way ;) I am not a member of the US military. My wife's job is rotational and causes the constant moving.

Really a bummer that BMW Motorrad does not have factory delivery, it would be so neat to drive the bike off of the manufacturing floor....

Thanks for your input...

Hi,
BMW never did have "factory" motorcycle delivery, at least not since 1969 when they began manufacturing the bikes in Spandau (Berlin). I've bought 4 bikes through their European Delivery Plan (the last in 1984, before the plan was drastically modified and then canceled) and, although the bikes were built in Berlin, delivery was in Munich, at the Freimann delivery center.

As noted, no Euro delivery of US-spec BMW bikes to US civilians.

But If you expect the "some time" in Germany to be normal tourism, lots of rentals linked right here: http://www.bmwmoa.org/global/ToEurope.htm

And if the "some time" in Germany is enough to get you a "resident" visa (student or work-related), then you could purchase new or used local/Euro-spec to enjoy there. (But re-sell when leaving; usually not worth the hassle to attempt to import a Euro-spec back to USA)
