Can someone tell us if the S fairings ; the small bubble shape fairings with small windshields of old were later updated to a S fairing to a more square shape with a small windshield?? Or is this a different model fairing? It is much smaller than a RT fairing but simular lines.?
Somewhere at the rally we saw a small square fashioned fairing we assumed was a S fairing also?? of later vintage?
Thanks for the history info.
Jim and Esther.

Like the first one i think. What model would that be from and year??
We have no interest in lower type fairing just the base and windshield and small nice looking not large like some older ones we have seen. Figure if we can find out what were looking for then half the battle is done.:dance
Thanks .

Some of the R45 (Europe) and R65 models came with a handlebar-mounted fairing like you describe. Sorry, don't have a pic. As I recall, there wasn't much cross-over to other models. Certainly didn't become classic like the "S" fairing.

Jim,
Check out the Parabellum Scout fairing. Nice looking and functional. But be forewarned. They are not cheap ($500 unpainted) and they will tell you they are 12 weeks behind but took more like 18 weeks. I just received the 2 I ordered and it took 18 weeks to get them. I have installed one on my R90 and will put the other on my R100S when it's finished. They actually work pretty good for a handlebar mount fairing. I will be taking the Airheads out of town more now that I have the Scouts. Good luck.

Ronnie thanks for the lead. We have on of their windshields on now but at about 65 your maxed out with the thing. Starts to develope a vib in the helmet and visor that tickels your nose if you know what I mean. We are looking to be able to do a bit more travel on the r 80 and thought if we could get a bit more comfort from the wind up to say 75 if we wanted to go there we would travel more on it.
The oilhead has a very small windshiled , factory I think but really resembles a s fairing and it is very comfortable up to as fast as I care to go without a wind vib.
Let me know how the scout fariring is in the wind and for blocking the bugs for the mostpart? :lol
Thanks

The design of the BMW S fairing was never changed.

I have seen some aftermarket fairings that resemble the S faring but are a little more square in their overall shape, while still being close enough to the original to be mistaken at first. I think they were sold under the Emgo brand at one point, and are still available from JC Whitney: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2000644/c-10111/Nty-1/p-2000644/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10111/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=fairing

My wife has a Parabellum Scout on her R/60. I personally have to close my face shield on my helmet cuz it gets kind of noisy at freeway speed, but it does a decent job as far as wind blast.
I believe Rapid Roy bought the JC whitney S Fairing. I haven't heard how it is though.

I used to have a Scout fairing on my R90 several years ago with a 18" windshield. It was great at highway speeds. Then I got a high speed wobble and went on the internet looking for solutions. I found an article claiming that handlebar mount fairings can cause this so I removed the Scout and installed "s" bars. In the mean time I sold the Scout. Well, to make a long story short, it wasn't the fairing, it was my tires. So, this time, I've gone with the 16" windshield with the "S" bars and it's good with the wind sheer hitting about the top of my helmet. There is no "slow down" at all, as a matter of fact, the bike really wants to go at 70mph+. The windshield height is most important as to your comfort level.
I have one of those JC Whitney "S" fairings. Not too bad for the price but I couldn't figure out how to get around the ignition switch nut on the /6 for mounting. I'd sell it pretty cheap.

I got a Maier after I crunched all the plastic on my75s. Had to fabricate the mount
and it is very smallish, but looks decent for the price and is available in rectangular
and 2 round headlight sizes. JC Whitney and Shadetree Powersports have them
