Anyone use the BMW or aftermarket case liners on your R1200RT? (or any other bike for that matter) Are they worth it?

I would like to some day have a set of the Kathy's bags but am using Nike gym bag which is almost perfect fit.

I have the Cee-Bailey ones (cheapest on Ebay if they're running Ebay auctions..) and I use them every time I go overnight on the bike. It's very convenient carrying in the liner-bags without having to take the cases off the bike. They're also handy for packing in the bedroom, and storing the "normal stuff that I always take" when they're not in use on the bike.

We have a set of Kathy's for our R12RT. Very well made. It's great not to have to lug the saddlebags or topbox from the bike to the hotel room. I guess we saved some scuff marks on the painted (why do they do that) bags.
I highly recommend them.

We use Kathy's bags for the 650 GS and the 1150 RT and highly recommend them. the material is sturdy and she uses good quality zippers. They fit well on both bikes. My GS has expandable bags and her bags also expand to the appropriate size. Can't go wrong in my opinion.
I've emailed her about a custom set of bags for my Moto Guzzi but she's been very busy with her tent business (yurts) and hasn't had a chance to consider it.

I use Kathy's bags, too, on my RT and GS. They fit really well. I rode many miles without them on previous RTs, but the design of the R12RT side cases makes stuff packed into the lid portion slide down every time you open the bag. The Kathy bag liners work very well and so far have been very sturdy. I've also heard anectodal information that, in the unlikely event there ever is a problem, her service is wonderful. I'm sold. :D

My SO bought me a pair of BMW liners (bags) for my R1200RT before I had a chance to point out the Kathy's products.
While the BMW bags fit perfectly and work very well, they are built (and priced) to almost expedition-standards.
The Kathy's products are very nice and much more affordable.

I have a set of RKA liners. They fit well, stand up on their own and are well made. They have an outside pouch as well as the main bag. I think they were about $100.

Another vote for Kathy's - excellent quality & fit, great color match and reasonable price.

2008GS...
I have the BMW hard and expandable cases. I haven't purchased or tried any liners. I find that all three cases come off in a matter of seconds and can be hand carried into a motel room, tent or home, when needed. They have also been perfectly waterproof. I don't see a great need for the liners. If I want to compartmentalize things a bit I use a plastic trash bag.
My two cents...

Don't know about the GS, but the bags on the RT weigh nearly 15 lbs. each when empty and are quite awkward to carry for any distance.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I think I will invest in a set of liners.
(I'm getting tired of closing the case with my knee while using my hands to manage the contents).

I run the Cee Baileys. Nice product, built with convenience in mind, and very durable. If you buy them I suggest doing it on Ebay, and buy them from Cee Bailey, not someone selling them in bulk, unless they are from an individual. My research showed someone who sold a product with the Cee bailey product pic, but never mentioned the maker (knockoffs). However, Cee Bailey does sell on Ebay. I called the company & bought them over the phone, had some problems getting them shipped........I think Ebay will get faster results. Otherwise, I am happy with them.

I've got a pair of the Kathy's liners on the old K75RT and they've been a well invested $100. Would recommend them to anyone for great quality and value for money.
Cheers,

You spent 20k onthe bike, go all the way and buy BMW bags. They are bullet proof and fit perfectly. They are the best even if a few more bucks. Do'nt chince your ride. Enjoy!

They fit perfect. You can get much more in a bag liner than just the saddle bag.

In my traveling I kind of like taking all three BMW bags off when I am at motel or staying with friends or family. That way after I check in I can ride with a lighter and cleaner/street looking bike than one that looks like an old guy is out riding with bags decked all over. I want to hide that aspect the best I can and appear to be someone I am not.

I have the BMW liners and they are well worth the money. I have them for the side cases as well as the large trunk. For the initial price of the bike the bags aren't that much and they are a perfect fit.

Well, after all the good advice I ended up getting the BMW bags. I used them on a ride last week up the coast from San Juan Capistrano to San Simeon (Hearst Castle) and back. Bags worked out great, and the ride was nice too!

I acquired the three liners from BMW (side cases and 49L top case). I really needed only one side case because the right one is full of tools and spares. They are certainly more convenient to carry into the motel than the hard cases.

Are the BMW liners water proof?

Another :thumb for the Kathy's bags. I leave them in there all of the time. The RT bags open down and the liners prevent everything from falling out. I might pack differently with top opening panniers.

I bought the saddlebag liners : "Bestem " from Tucker, Georgia
They were about $46 +S&H for the pair. Seem to be well made and reinforced appropriately., Black Cordura material. Big central 3-sided zipper and a zippered front pocket. Satisfied so far.

I bought a set of "Kathy's Bags" for my CLC. They fit perfectly and are especially useful for the side opening side cases. Easy to pack, portable, and durable. Ride Safe :usa :usa
+1 for RKA (also +1 from my wife for RKA), we are using side and topcase liners, liked them so much we got their rear seat and rack bags for shorter or day trips. Good stuf.

I have the Cee Bailey's liners for my RT. They are very nice and were only $78 I think for the pair.
They hold their shape some what while packing. Not quite as well as the factory BMW pair I have for the R1100S.

I purchased the Cee Bailey liners at the BMW Rally in Lima, OH for $30 each. I have been very satisfied with them. I liked them so well, I purchased the top case liner from them, on-line, at a later date. As others have mentioned, it is easier to pack the liners than try to stuff things into the cases.
I wish there was some way of moving the "X" straps out of the way. Maybe I will experiment with some "hook and loop" to stick them onto the walls of the cases.

i have c-bailey liners and am happy with them. they are very affordable.
on the 49L topcase, I bought the TLC liner. I really liked this because not only was it affordable but they monogram the liner and i put my name on it of course. looks very nice if I do say so myself.....
They also sell liners for side cases... check them out at www.tlcproducts.com
